A New York City police officer's career is over after an investigation into booze theft.

The Daily News has learned that an NYPD lieutenant who avoided punishment following sexual harassment allegations ended his 22-year career when he was caught stealing an expensive bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue whiskey.

Last May, Lt. Benjamin Gottlieb failed an integrity test after Internal Affairs received information that he had sticky fingers while on duty.

Gottlieb, who is assigned to the 30th Precinct in Harlem, allegedly stole the liquor, which was vouchered as evidence following an arrest. The pricey elixir can cost upwards of $200 per bottle.

Gottlieb was the subject of a sexual harassment lawsuit at the time, which was later settled.

He was placed on modified duty, stripped of his gun and shield, and transferred following the alleged liquor larceny.

On Dec. 1, he was finally suspended — seven months after the theft allegations.

He was reinstated to full duty and immediately retired when his suspension expired on Dec. 31, the NYPD said.

Gottlieb was charged with and penalized for departmental violations during the investigation, a department spokesman said. For more information, the spokesman directed The News to the NYPD's recently released discipline database.

However, Gottlieb's history is not included in the database because retired officers' information is uploaded incrementally.

Gottlieb declined to make a statement.

Police Officer Laura Mullaney sued the New York City Police Department in February 2020, alleging sexual harassment by supervisors, including Gottlieb, who she claimed retaliated against her by assigning her more dangerous assignments.

Last August, the city settled the lawsuit for $85,000.

Additionally, Gottlieb faced five substantiated civilian complaints, including one in 2007 alleging excessive force against a prisoner. He was docked 15 days of vacation.
