Man charged with 1st-degree murder after Danforth Village LCBO shooting

A 21-year-old man is dead and another young man is in jail today following a Scarborough LCBO dispute leading to Toronto's 60th 2020 homicide.

Toronto Police claim they were called at 5:32 p.m. at 3111 Danforth Road, just east of Victoria Park. Sunday after shooting news.

Two men clashed at the place inside a convenience store before gunshots were exchanged, police claim.

Exact information on the essence of the altercation are yet to be released, but police reports said Monday morning that the battle broke out "over social distancing."

"A 21-year-old man was in a shop making a buy. A 20-year-old man and a woman had made a purchase at the same supermarket," reads Monday's Toronto Police Service statement. "The two men had a physical disagreement."

Police claim the 21-year-old man left after his buy. The 20-year-old couple did the same after their own buy.

"Shortly afterwards," the 21-year-old was seen running towards LCBO parking. Gun shots were heard, the young man was found on the ground, receiving a gunshot wound. He was hospitalized but succumbed to his injury.

Meanwhile, according to TPS Investigator Amanda Thornton, a civilian witness spotted the suspicious car, alerting authorities. Officers located the vehicle eight minutes later, about 2 km away, arresting a suspect.

Toronto's twenty-year - old Michael Roberts was charged with first-degree murder in the investigation. Police named Monday's victim as Jakub Sudomericky, 21.

The victim's place of residence was not listed in the statement, but during a Monday afternoon press conference, Thornton told reporters that Sudomericky is believed to be from Wasaga Beach.

Thornton has reported that both the victim and the perpetrator wore masks inside the shop, and their disagreement was not directly about using face masks.

The precise cause of the LCBO altercation and subsequent shooting remain under investigation.
