Sydney Raines, Dave Portnoy's sex-tape partner: 'I'm not sorry'
At the end of April, Sydney Raines went at her kid's work and looked after her children when she was a teenager, wondering if she knew Barstool Sports creator Dave Portnoy when she got a message from a friend.
Raines, 22 years of age, said to The Post, "They sent me a video and said it was sent to them. "I got another friend's text asking if I was all right. I've been like, 'What is hell?"'
The video in question was a sex-tape she wrote at her home in Nantucket, Mass. In July 2020 with Portnoy. When Raines Google called himself, the resident of Atlanta heard that the video — which showed Portnoy carrying a labyrinth attached to a neck — was padded on the Internet.
Raines said she did not know how she had been leaked with the raunchy video, making it clear that she did not do anything herself. She wrote Portnoy asking what had happened, but he knew not much more than she had done.
"Then it wasn't my mother saying we had to talk before I got a moment of heart dropping or panic. But she was helpful," recalled Raines. "Many friends began checking in and Dave reached out several times to ensure I was okay."
Following the video's titles, stock prices were temporarily reduced for Penn National Gaming which holds a 36% stake in Barstool Sports. Portnoy brushed off saying: "It seems like a stupid excuse for a stock to fall if someone commits a crime by filming an old sex video between two adult consentants."
As far as Raines is concerned, the young woman did almost unheard of the age of cancelation: She gave a pologetic response. She had her behaviour in the declaration that she raced through friends and Portnoy before posting on Instagram rather than falling into a teary confessional.
"I becam conscious yesterday of the fact that an internet video surfaced, and yes, that was me," she wrote. "Perhaps some do not accept the video content but it is completely consensual and regrettable, it is not private anymore, but [Portnoy and I] still are friends with no animosity. I am not going to mark this error because both of us took responsibility."
She told The Post, "I was always very honest about my sexuality. "I don't mind when I ought to, maybe but I saw it as a bump on the track. It wouldn't have ruined me. In this case, I felt like people might see me as a victim, but I didn't see myself like that."
With a show of bravado, she signed up: "Not excused, Syd."
Her inbox was full of both good and bad news. Some people accused her of Portnoy being paid. She disputes it vigorously.
"I got nothing from this. "I have nothing. It was not money, it was my conscience. It wasn't money. "Nothing has changed so far," she said, adding that it refused to accept offers for different clothing firms and to be an ambassador. Her mother also joked to launch an account with OnlyFans.
'If you post these half-naked images [in Instagram], you might make money from it,' she said. However, she doesn't know that on [OnlyFans] many girls do porn. My photos are R, not X. I don't know. That's how I want to keep it."
Raines may have been infamous, but she is still a "country girl" self-claimed.
She grew up hunting, fishing and even composting in Brooks, G.A. — pop. 527 — so she would still have fresh bait. "I am a country girl very much. I like soccer, and my family's large at the campsite," she said. "Because I thought I was too country, when I was younger, I tried to grow out of it. Except who I am. But this is who I am. I love that." I love it.
Raines reveals she had been a wild teen and went to a Christian private secondary school to make her act jointly. She enrolled at university in the hope of becoming an assistant doctor, but she abandoned her career after losing interest. In 2019, she entered a Tropical Beauty Bikini competition with over 16,000 followers and gains popularity on Instagram.
Portnoy, who slipped into her DMs in the early 2020, captured her sexy snaps. Some months before their rendezvous in New England, the pair chatted online.
"Dave's a dull guy. I think my friend is him," she said.
Raines, who is single, now works in an Atlanta lounge and also in the hospital as a part-time boyfriend. She plans to return to school to take over the paving company of her family. And what everybody else thinks, she's not concerned.
"If I have heard anything from the video, everyone will still have a good or bad opinion. The most important thing is not to apologize for anything that you don't regret. How I treated the situation I have no regrets," she said.
"I'm the only one I need to test myself to at the end of the day."
