Teacher arrested in Brooklyn for kissing a 13-year-old student

A Brooklyn special education teacher was arrested Friday morning, authorities said, after a school employee observed him kissing one of his students, a 13-year-old boy.

Michael D'Anna, 41, was charged with child endangerment and sexual abuse.

According to police, D'Anna was seen kissing the pupil in a lab at Bay Ridge Public School/Intermediate School 30.

The school promptly contacted the New York Police Department.

According to DOE officials, D'Anna, a tenured teacher, has worked for the city Education Department since 2009 and at P.S./I.S. 30 since 2013.

According to a police source, D'Anna called his girlfriend, whom he identified on his smartphone as "Baby," following his detention.

DOE officials said he was relocated to an administrative office where he will have no contact with children while the investigations are ongoing. If D'Anna is indicted, the agency will initiate the process of terminating his employment.

"The school quickly reported this grave accusation, and this individual has been removed from school while we pursue termination," DOE spokeswoman Katie O'Hanlon said. "Our first focus is the safety of our children, and we are completely cooperating with the police department to aid with the investigation."
