Who's Toka? Chicago and King Von lyrics inspiration
Who's Tooka, the Chicago boy, killed in a horrific gang shooting in 2012? And why he's so hated nowadays? Eight years after his killing, Tooka reappears in King Von's lyrics and online discussions.
Shondale Gregory, whose street name is Tooka, was a Chicago 15-year-old.
On January 12, 2012, Tooka was waiting at a bus stop when a car pulled up ahead. A passenger left the car and shot the teen several times after exchanging a few sentences. The scene pronounced Tooka dead.
Shondale Gregory, aka Tooka, was a known Chicago Gangster Disciples affiliate (GD). His killing is believed to have been in revenge for the death of another gang member, 17-year-old Eddrick Walker, aka Ty, who was part of the Black Disciples (BD) and believed to have been murdered by GD members.
GD murdered another BD gang member, Odee Perry, 20, as a revenge for Tooka's murder. According to Daily Mail, maybe one of Tooka's closest relatives, Gakirah Barnes, was responsible for shooting. The Mail called her "one of America's most notorious female gang members."
Barnes was assassinated at the age of 17 in 2014 as alleged revenge for slaying Odee Perry.
Why does King Von hate Tooka ?
King Von is an O Block rapper in southern Chicago named after Odee Perry by fellow gang members. King Von is the grandson of BD creator David Barksdale, King Dave.
As part of the rivalry between Chicago gangs, their members taunt each other through songs or social media, and King Von mentioned "smoking takea" many times.
Urban Dictionary describes "smoking takea" as A term used to describe powerful marijuana. Originated after Chief Keef's Black Disciples crew murdered (smoked) Shondale 'Tooka' Gregory. Now use 'smoking takea' to humiliate Shondale's demise."
King Von raps the line in his song All These N****s: "Tooka in my lung, I say that every time he's smoked. (He smoked)."
This line is why Tooka is now back in the news, prompting the online community to speculate why King Von seems to hate him so much.
One user took Reddit to say he feels it's because King Von took Tooka's beating somewhere.

The video shows a user at 1:29 saying "F***Tooka we took his life." The video, originally posted on Instagram, hit over 8,000 live feed views and is one of the reasons the teen's name is now trending online, more than eight years after his death.
Tooka is one of the gang members brutally murdered and ridiculed online. He's one of the few, however, whose name is now recognised worldwide.
