Arrested in Sydney, Channel 7 star Andrew O'Keefe faces accusations of domestic abuse

In Sydney overnight, the game show host and former White Ribbon chairman was arrested and charged with an alleged domestic assault.

TV presenter and game show host Andrew O'Keefe was charged by the police overnight in Sydney East with an alleged domestic attack on his partner.

Mr O'Keefe, 49, is expected on Thursday to face Waverley Local Court after being arrested early on Sunday morning.

The former Weekend Sunrise will be claimed by police and the current The Chase host attacked his rumored wife and Sydney-based doctor Orly Lavee in a Randwick apartment just before 1am.

He was arrested at around 3.30 a.m. on a nearby street before being taken to the police station in Maroubra and charged with common assault.

Police issued the performer bail on condition that, unless through a lawyer, he did not touch or approach Dr Lavee.

For comment, Mr O'Keefe and Seven West Media were contacted.

On behalf of Dr Lavee, 41, an interim apprehended abuse order was also given, which will be heard in court on Thursday alongside the attack charge.

The actor must not touch, harass, attack or bully his partner or go to her house under the terms of the court order made on Sunday.

"In a statement on Sunday, NSW Police said: "Just before 1 a.m., Eastern Beaches Police Area Command officers visited a Randwick unit following news that a 41-year-old woman was reportedly raped in an incident linked to domestic abuse.

Police arrested a 49-year-old man nearby at around 3.30 a.m. following investigations.

"He was taken to Maroubra police station where, on Thursday 4 February 2021, he was charged with common assault (DV) and granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court."

A retired lawyer and son of former NSW Supreme Court Justice Barry O'Keefe, Mr O'Keefe was one of the founding members of the White Ribbon Foundation's domestic abuse charity.

In 2017, he served as its chairman. In 2019, the organisation went into liquidation.

For his service to television and charitable work, the former Deal or No Deal host was given the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2017.

That year, Mr. O'Keefe separated from his ex-wife Eleanor, admitting on Sunrise that after splitting from the mother of his three children, his life felt "meaningless."

Dr. Lavee recently imagined the often stage star, with September snaps seeming to show them wearing wedding bands, stirring reports that they were secretly married.
