A lawyer has been charged with defrauding a Brooklyn client of $240,000 during a land sale.

Prosecutors said a New Jersey attorney was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing $240,000 from a woman who was attempting to sell the property of her deceased sister in Brooklyn.

Antoni Moszczynski, 67, represented the woman in the selling of her Leonard St. property in Greenpoint for $2.395 million in December 2019, prosecutors said. However, when the woman obtained more than $230,000 from the buyer as a down payment, Moszczynski placed it in his escrow account.

According to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, the attorney then transferred $210,000 to his own bank account and spent the money within three months.

The woman retained a new attorney to assist her in concluding the property's sale, which was completed in June 2020.

According to the DA's Office, Moszczynski never gave the woman the money from the down payment. He was charged with grand larceny in the second degree and released without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 29.

Prosecutors said he did not return calls from the victim or her new counsel.
