From Israel to Interracial: Tiffany Haddish's Journey with Michael Rapaport, Nationality, and Race

on Feb. 20, in an Instagram live sesh, Tiffany Haddish spilled the tea that she's jet-setting to Israel for the first time. She's calling it an "edu-trip" to get clued up on the Israel-Hamas drama.

This actress-comedian, now 44, spilled she's hitting up Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, and the Dead Sea to peep the politics and scope out Israel for herself. So, what's the scoop on Tiffany Haddish's link to Israel? Is she, like, Jewish?

Alright, here's the 411: Haddish's pops is Jewish, straight-up. She was born on December 3, 1979, in LA to Tsihaye Reda Haddish, an Eritrean Jew, and Leola Haddish, who's all about Jehovah’s Witness. Her old man bounced when she was just a toddler, and she only clocked onto her Jewish roots at 27.

When she was 13, Haddish and her half-sibs got shuffled into foster care 'cause her mom's schizophrenia had her not able to handle things. As she grew up, she spent a hot minute couch-surfing and even chilling in her whip.

Then, a social worker dropped a bomb on her: either hit up therapy or hit up comedy camp. Haddish chose laughs and kicked off her comedy hustle in the early 2000s, battling it out on shows like "Who’s Got Jokes" and "Def Comedy Jam."

She snagged some small gigs in her young days on shows like "That So Raven," "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia," and "New Girl." But it was in 2017 when she really blew up with the flick "Girls Trip."

Since then, Haddish has dropped Netflix specials left and right, rocked "Saturday Night Live," and even scored two Emmys for her comedy specials.

She found out about her Jewish lineage later on in the game. Haddish didn't vibe with her pops until she hit 27, and when they reconnected, she found out about her Jewish background and what it was like for her dad growing up in Eritrea where being Jewish was a no-go. She was shook to learn about her Jewish roots and was like, "Wait, Black Jews are a thing?"

After discovering her roots, Haddish did a DNA test that confirmed her Jewish heritage. When her pops passed in 2017, she dipped to Eritrea for the first time and even became a citizen two years later.

Haddish got deep into her Jewish roots, saying, "I feel like more people should figure out who they really are. Find out your bloodline, what you are, study and learn from that. I’ve learned so much; I’ve been studying the Torah, I’ve been learning Hebrew."

Haddish was feelin' like she totally missed out on the whole bat mitzvah vibe, ya know? She told Time Magazine back in 2022, "Man, I wish I'd done that when I was a teen. That was a wild time for me... I wish I had a rabbi to chat with back then and my folks makin' me hit up Hebrew class."

But guess what? Homegirl decided to flip the script and throw down her own bat mitzvah at the ripe age of 40. Crazy, right? She first got a taste of the Jewish scene, diggin' the bar and bat mitzvah scene while hustlin' as an energy producer back in the day.

Peep this: she estimated she’d hit up like 500 of those shindigs, just bein' the hype woman. But for her own gig, she dropped her comedy special "Black Mitzvah" on the same day. Straight up lit, man. Had music, dance, and her own hilarious take on growin' up.

And get this, she had some big names like Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler, and Barbra Streisand rollin' through. Even Billy Crystal got in on the action. They're tight, ya know? Like, he got honored at her bat mitzvah. They even co-starred in "Here Today," and in that flick, they were gettin' down with the hora.

After her bat mitzvah, she's been all about her Jewish roots, doin' up Shabbat dinners every Friday and grindin' on some Torah learnin' daily. She's always chillin' with her rabbi, askin' mad questions and stuff.

Her faith's been her rock, helpin' her through some rough patches. She's even spittin' prayers every night before hittin' the hay. Judaism's been her anchor, givin' her that deep spiritual connection.

And yo, she's hittin' up Israel, takin' a look at what's goin' down firsthand. She's on a mission, askin' questions, talkin' to peeps, tryna figure it all out. But some folks ain't feelin' it, throwin' shade 'cause she ain't checkin' out Gaza. She clapped back though, sayin', "Hold up, I'm peepin' everything, gotta start with Israel first."

But despite the haters, she's gettin' love too, with mad likes and support rollin' in, even from Israeli actress Noa Tishby. It's all love, man.
