After having been found guilty of having sexual intercourse with two of her students, a HIGH school teacher will spend two years in jail.
In 2019, she was charged with six sexual battery charges and one count of interfering with evidence.
Is Laura Dunker married?
Prior to being arrested for having sex with two male students, Laura Dunker, 30, was a married high school teacher at Bedford High School in Ohio.
If she is still married, or who her husband is, is unknown.
Dunker was removed from her post while the school confirmed the inquiry and charges to staff and student families with a statement in 2020.
"The statement read: "As I previously discussed with our group, to protect the safety and well-being of our students, we immediately put the teacher on leave.
"On December 5, the Board of Education accepted her resignation."
Why was a teacher from Ohio jailed?
Dunker was arrested on two counts of sexual battery and convicted.
A judge from Cuyahoga County sentenced her to two years imprisonment.
According to Bedford police, Dunker was originally arrested on six counts of sexual battery in December 2019 for having sex with two male students, but later pleaded guilty to only two of the offences.
Dunker reportedly picked up one student before school and had sex with him in her car in a park, according to court records seen by People magazine.
Two other alleged incidents took place at her house, though court records did not disclose the ages of the boys.
When she appeared at the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas on January 6, Dunker pleaded not guilty, Cleveland TV station WKYC reported.
However, about November 6, 2019, a separate charge accuses Dunker of tampering with evidence while "knowing that an official proceeding or investigation was in progress."
How long is she going to serve in prison?
Dunker's probation will be completed simultaneously, which ensures she will complete her sentences simultaneously and stay locked up for a total of two years.
The former teacher will also spend five years in post-release control following her release from jail, and will be forced to register every 90 days for the rest of her life as a sex offender.
Michael O'Malley, Prosecutor of Cuyahoga County, answered her sentence, saying: "Teachers are expected to serve their students and communities as role models." She took advantage of these students and has to face the repercussions now.
She is the second Bedford High School teacher to plead guilty in the past two years to sexual battery charges involving students.
After admitting to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on many occasions, Common Pleas Court Judge Joan Synenberg convicted Sean Williams, the school's former varsity football coach.
For the attack, he was sentenced to six years in prison.
