Police started looking for a male suspect in the area following an altercation at a Walmart in Salem, Massachusetts, on Sunday, when they learned the incident possibly contained an air gun and BBs.
According to the Salem Police Department, there were no identifiable threats against any people prior to or since the attack. However, the perpetrator has not been located.
A call came in at 10:50 a.m. that a guy with a rifle was in the woods behind Walmart at 450 Highland Avenue in Salem.
The SWAT team was called in to assist in the hunt for a man with a rifle outside a Walmart in Salem.
According to the Salem Police Department, law enforcement is looking for a man who allegedly fled into the woods with a rifle in the vicinity of a Salem Walmart.
At around 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, Salem police responded to the rear of the Walmart at 450 Highland Avenue to investigate the report.
As they arrived at the scene, police talked to a witness who said that the backhoe loader's windows had been broken by a bullet that was shot from somewhere in the rear parking lot.
Peabody and Lynn officers, along with members of the NEMLEC SWAT Squad, aided Salem police in their search and investigation.
The BBs fired from an air rifle smashed the backhoe's glass, as evidence uncovered at the scene shows.
According to the police, no identified threats were made to anybody in the wake of the attack, but the perpetrator has not been located as of yet. He is about 6 foot tall and was wearing a gray sweatshirt.
