The pair resided in the village of Burmistrova in the Iskitimsky District of the Novosibirsk Oblast in Russia's southwestern Siberia.

The 22-year-old admitted to being jealous of his lover and strangling her when she provoked him.

He then dismembered the body, but not before chopping off the deceased's finger in order to unlock her phone and leave a phony trail for cops via text messages.

The search for the young woman, who was previously known as Nikolai Basakovsky before transitioning, began after the alleged killer filed a missing person report in order to deflect suspicion away from himself.

Victoria's body, strangled, was discovered outside the village on October 13, 2020, after the former police officer confessed to her murder and revealed the location of the body.

According to the accused, the crime was committed out of jealousy and retaliation for her insulting his family.

Kalinin claims that during the interrogation, he flew into a rage when she began insulting his mother, saying, "No one has the right to insult my relatives in that manner."

The victim's mother, Nadezhda Asatryan, is certain that the killer had another motive, namely money, and that the murder was meticulously planned long ago.

“Jealousy is not an option here. This is about my child's theft of money. The robbery's stated objective was kidnapping and murder. “There is no envy,” she stated.

Following Victoria's death, he allegedly sent a message to a friend via the victim's personal social media page, which he unlocked using the severed digits.

He left a message stating that she had traveled to Berdsk to visit an old friend.

However, the plan failed when it was discovered that the message was sent after Victoria's death, and Denis was apprehended.

Relatives of the deceased believe that the former police officer is concealing something, including the possibility that others were involved.

“It is certain that the attacker was not alone,” Kristina Panova, a friend of Victoria Basakovskaya, stated. Because she was physically prepared, she was capable of fighting anyone.

Denis is no different.

Victoria Basakovskaya, according to the NTV news website, was fit and active in sports.

The young woman's family has requested that the investigation be expanded.

Only Kalinin has been arrested in connection with the case, and he faces up to 15 years in prison.
