Teen charged in Melton after woman was allegedly kicked from behind
A 13-year-old boy was charged after video showed the horrific moment in which a woman was reportedly kicked in a sickly assault from behind.
A teenage boy was charged with an alleged sickening assault on a "vulnerable" member of a group in Melbourne.
Police said that a 52-year-old woman was walking along Unitt Street in Melton on Tuesday when a 13-year-old boy on a pushbike allegedly approached her from behind.
He kicked the woman in the back reportedly, causing her to crash face first onto the concrete footpath below.
The woman, identified only as Melinda, is still in the hospital, needing surgery.
Visions show the boy riding away on a bike to meet a second person across the lane.
The woman is identified as a vulnerable community member who will have to be hospitalized for the next six weeks to treat injuries, including a broken kneecap.
The alleged attack was characterized as "completely unprovoked" by former Detective Acting Sergeant Jessica Kas.
Since then, a 13-year-old boy has been indicted for recklessly causing serious injury.
He was granted bail and would appear at a later date at a children's court.
