A 38-year-old Long Island mother who had been missing for weeks was discovered dead Thursday in a forested location, authorities said. Her 43-year-old husband has been charged with her murder.

Melissa Molinari was reported missing on Dec. 2, Suffolk County Police said. She was last seen on Nov. 21 at her Lolly Lane home in Centereach. According to WABC, she was a mother of four.

Marcello Molinari, her husband, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was jailed overnight pending his arraignment in Central Islip's First District Court on Friday.

Melissa Molinari's body has been transferred to the Suffolk County medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

During the early phases of the search, Joseph Petito — the father of Gabby Petito, another Long Island resident who was discovered dead in October after going missing on a road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie – tweeted a plea for assistance in locating Melissa.

Molinari was a single mother of four children.

He tweeted again early Friday, this time in response to the awful revelation.

"Why?" he enquired. "Why do we continue to do the same thing and expect a different outcome?" We must educate our children more effectively in order to break the pattern. #ViolenceAgainstWomen #TogetherWeCan #melissamolinari"
