Jackie Weaver: town council meeting in Handforth Parish goes viral
After councillors descended into a bitter struggle and one woman started throwing others off the call, a surreal council meeting went viral.
After councilors descended into a bitter war, and one woman started throwing others off the call, a surreal town council Zoom meeting went viral.
The Handforth Parish Council meeting was viewed on Twitter more than 1.8 million times, with more than 15,000 views taken from a longer version on YouTube.
The December 10 footage was originally shared by the Cheshire Council online, but has since become an online sensation, with thousands of people joking about one of the councilors, Jackie Weaver, who seemed to be disrespectful to boot the councilors from the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Council Chair, Brian Tolver, asked, "Can we be assured that we will not be thrown out of the meeting like we were last time?" He added the last time he was 'thrown out'.
Mr Tolver had previously been excluded from the Independent Reports of the 7pm Planning and Environment Committee.
As long as everybody has fair conduct, no one will be excluded from the conference," said Ms. Weaver."
Mr Tolver and Ms Weaver then started a heated discussion about her actions, but other councilors constantly interrupted her as their phones rang and they murmured in the background.
"Ms. Weaver then interrupted the meeting, telling Mr. Tolver, "I'll have to exclude you from this meeting if you disrupt it.
Mr Tolver shot back, "It is only the chairman who can remove people from a meeting." Jackie Weaver, you have no jurisdiction here. No authority whatsoever.'
Ms Weaver then immediately kicked him out of the conference.
Then she started to call on the councilors to elect a new moderator.
Then the vice-chair was indignant, declaring that he was in charge, and ordering Jackie Weaver to "read the standing orders."
Ms. Weaver was laughed at by other councillors, including Barry Burkill, who accused her of not understanding what she was talking about.
Mr. Burkill was then dismissed, along with other councilors who had been laughing.
John Smith, who welcomed Ms Weaver to the town, then voted for a new Chairman, the councillors who had not been replaced by Ms Weaver.
My first point is to give Jackie an apology. Welcome to Handforth,' said Mr Smith.
"It was a very good example of bullying in the east of Cheshire and the surrounding area."
The clip created a viral phenomenon, and during the day, Jackie Weaver was a topic on Twitter.
