A pregnant mother and her unborn child were killed in an Alabama shooting while her husband was being detained.

Officials say an Alabama man was charged with two counts of murder in connection with a shooting Monday that killed his pregnant wife and unborn baby.

Summer Tatum, who was identified as the woman, died Monday after being transported to a hospital near their Pratville home, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

According to Chief Assistant District Attorney C.J. Robinson, medical professionals delivered the infant, who also died Monday.

Hunter James Tatum was arrested in connection with the shooting.

"We are still awaiting the results of the forensic examination and autopsy," Robinson told the Montgomery Adviser. "However, capital murder charges are a distinct possibility. We are prepared to speak on behalf of these two victims."

In 2019, Summer Tatum, 25, and Hunter Tatum, 26, married. This month, she confirmed that they were expecting the baby in February.

Pratville is located around 15 miles northwest of Montgomery, Alabama's capital city.

Hunter Tatum was reportedly arrested in Pratville on a $400,000 bond.
