Actor Zachery Ty Bryan, who played the oldest son on sitcom Home Improvement in the 1990s, was arrested after reportedly strangling his mother after a club night out-only weeks after separating from his 14-year-old wife.
Bryan, 39, was arrested in Eugene, Oregon late Friday after a neighbor called for a domestic dispute.
Bryan 's girlfriend said the two clashed as he put his hands around her neck and squeezed, TMZ reported.
The girlfriend said Bryan attempted to snatch her phone from her as she attempted to dial 911, then ran across the street to escape.
At the scene, cops found Bryan sitting outside his home with the neighbor's house mother.
Bryan was charged with strangulation, a felony, and fourth-degree misdemeanor offenses and interference with news.
Bryan stayed in detention at Lane County Jail on Saturday afternoon, although it wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney speaking on his behalf.
The supposed survivor of the case is assumed to be a new partner and not California's alienated wife Bryan.
Hours before his arrest in Oregon, Bryan shared a picture of himself in a club with four women.
Before the laughing party lies on ice a bottle of vodka and a bucket of Red Bulls.
The photo caption reads: 'Good night,' incorporating a face emoji savoring tasty food.
Bryan was Home Improvement 's lead cast member for the eight-season period from 1991 to 1999.
He played Brad Taylor, Tim Taylor's eldest son (Tim Allen), while he was one month younger than his younger sibling, Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
His character was known for playing with various hair styles and being the most often depressed boy.
He was praised in the role, winning the Young Artist Award 1999 for leading young actor.
In recent years, he has turned his hand to making horror films, and Grim Tourist and Prowl are his production credits.
He was also the executive producer of documentary BIT X BIT: In Bitcoin We Trust.
Bryan is Carly Matros' father of four. The two were sweethearts from high school and married in 2007--but moved to separate weeks ago.
Just two weeks before his arrest on October 1, Bryan took to Instagram to reveal he and Matros planned to split after 14 years of marriage.
'Firteen years as childhood friends, soulmates, husbands, and then guardians. It was an amazing journey, but together we decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage,' he wrote together in a caption to a couple photo.
'As we reach this next stage, our children and friendship as co-parents and friends will remain our focus,' Bryan added.
'We understand this news lends itself to national debate, but in the interest of our children and our families, at this moment we ask for anonymity, sympathy and love.'
The couple had lived together in Laguna Beach, California, where Matros is a prosperous, high-end residential property agent.
