Eva Mendes feels "lucky" getting a job and family.
The actress, 46, opened with Ryan Gosling about welcoming daughters Esmeralda Amada, 6, and Amada Lee, 4, revealing in a recent interview that she never wanted to have kids until she "fell in love" with the actor.
When asked if she was able to return to acting after a six-year hiatus, Mendes told the Australian radio program, "I 'm making [my kids] a little older now, but I still feel like I never want to put the wrong message out there to young women.
"I was lucky enough to work my 20-year butt off," she said. "I never wanted kids until I fell in love with Ryan, and it sort of turned out that I was 40 and got my first son. I think I was 42 with the second one, so it turned out that I had a job and so I turned my focus on my family."
The Hitch star added "speaking about definitely going back" to acting.
"I guess it's time," Mendes said, adding "the list gets shorter and shorter stuff I'd do."
"I don't want to do something violent. I don't want to do something dangerous. I guess the only thing left is Disney!" she quipped.
Last appeared in Lost River, Gosling 's 2014 directorial debut.
The pair, who started dating in 2011 after filming The Place Outside the Pines together, kept their relationship and the lives of children incredibly secret over the years.
Mendes first proposed a potential silver screen comeback this month in an interview with Sydney Morning Herald.
"I felt it didn't go away to my ambition, it just moved to the girls," she said.
"I applaud and look at those people who can do it all, but I'm not one of them," said Mendes, "and, luckily, I have an option not to work and I know how grateful I am that it's even an option. I was so fortunate to be able to incubate with my babies, so now they're four and six, I'm beginning to feel like my ambition is coming back."
