The director, who probably believed he was deaf, can be heard on the video conference call asking another person, These poor people live in these tiny apartments.
Lukas Gage is calling a director overheard to taunt his "tiny apartment during a simulated audition.
On Friday, the 25-year-old Euphoria actor shared a video clip of a Zoom meeting with the unidentified director, commenting on his Twitter and Instagram account, "psa if youre a s— talking director ensure to mute ur s— on zoom mtgings."
Gage waits in his bedroom as he tries to read lines. The director—who probably believed he was on silence—can be seen on the video conference call asking another guy, "These poor people live in these tiny apartments."
"Like I'm looking at his history and he's got his TV and, you know, until Gage cuts him off to warn him that his microphone is "unmuted."
"I know it’s a s—y apartment," says Gage. "Give me this job so I can get a better one."
The director then immediately apologizes and tells the actor he's "mortified" by his remark.
"Listen, I'm living in a four by four box. It's fine," says Gage, brushing the comment. "Just give me the job, and we'll be fine."
Twitter users gathered behind Gage instantly, director Charlie McDowell replying back, "I can only imagine how bad this director’s movies are."
"Thank u @lukasgage for publishing this. Actors have to walk out on the plank and be vulnerable and open in an audition and too often the people on the other side have 0 regard for what that takes and how private it is. f— 'em. (also that room is nice & u handled that v well)," tweeted Kevin McHale.
"That is NOT a s—y apartment." Better Call Saul actress Rhea Seeborn wrote a tweet. "Not that it should happen for the audition anyway. Sorry, you had to take that in—before an audition, no less."
Joe Jonas wrote on Instagram, "handled like a champ."
"Classy response Lukas 👌🏻," Jones responded. "What an entitled asshole, dm me who it was so I can make note not to ever work with such a person."
Besides Euphoria, Gage starred in Passion, Victor and appeared in shows including American Vandal and Veronica Mars.
