Suspect involved in the fatal shooting of 1-year-old Davell Gardner by a stray bullet.
Cops said Thursday that the suspect in the fatal stray-bullet shooting of 1-year-old Davell Gardner in Brooklyn was charged this week in connection with the infant's murder.
Dashawn Austin, 25, was charged with various offenses — including depraved indifference murder of a child under the age of 11 — in connection with the July shooting of the baby at a cookout at Raymond Bush Playground in Bedford-Stuyvesant, cops said.
Three additional men, ages 27, 35, and 36, were shot and are expected to survive the gunplay, police said.
Austin was arrested days after that shooting in connection with the March 2020 murder of Janile Whitted, 26, outside Amour Cabaret on Nostrand Avenue near Herkimer Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, cops said.
In connection with that case, he was charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
At the time, he was being investigated as a possible suspect in Davell's murder. These charges were brought against him Wednesday afternoon, cops said, while he was being held in connection with the earlier murder.
