Bridgerton: Are Real Life Dating Stars Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page?
Bridgerton, Netflix's latest show, brought viewers straight into a world of dukes, duchesses, viscounts, and scandal. The chemistry between some of the characters seemed too natural to be entirely fictional, although it's obvious that the story was fiction. The tension between Phoebe Dynevor's Daphne Bridgerton and Regé-Jean Page's Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, was nearly too tangible to be an act. So, in real life, are the two together?
About what is 'Bridgerton'?
For the aristocrats of The Ton, Season 1 of Bridgerton opened at the beginning of the social season. Viewers watched their eldest daughter, Daphne, as the Bridgertons prepared to have her first season in the pool of women looking to be married. The Queen called her "the diamond of the season" after her debut, which brought to her door a lot of suitors. Unfortunately, they were scared off by her eldest brother Anthony and Daphne soon found herself with little-to-no choices for her future.
Simon, meanwhile, returned to the city to settle the estate of his late father. When the two met, they struck a bargain to pretend to be courting to get other men interested in Daphne and get all the dotting mothers from Simon's back who wanted their daughters to marry a Duke.
But as with most TV show schedules, the scheme of Daphne and Simon went wrong, leading to a variety of sticky situations.
In real life, are Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page together?
While Daphne and Simon may be on the show together at present, if the same is true for Page and Dynevor, it is not clear.
According to Elite Daily, Dyvenor was linked to recruitment executive Simon Merrill in 2017.
"My boyfriend and I traveled across Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam last year. It was incredible. He's half Thai," she told Merrill Express in 2017. "And we went to a village for his kin. His grandmother, aunt and uncle are all there, and it was an amazing experience, really.
After separating from Merrill, she then started dating actor Sean Teale. The two were very transparent about their relationship, but Teale had another girlfriend before 2018.
About his relationships, Page was not accessible and only gave very vague references to his personal love life.
"I'm a massive fan of the idea of romance. Romance is a great thing, and in the world we need more of it,” he told Entertainment Weekly. Most things at their heart, whether they know it or not, are love stories anyway. The more seriously a show attempts to take itself and separate itself from that, the more hilarious it is, the more the love story seems to come out in general.
But, while a partnership has not been confirmed by Page and Dyvenor, they don't seem to be involved with other partners.
Those scenes of sex
For its racy sex scenes between Page and Dyvenor, Bridgerton has gotten lots of praise and criticism. The reason some of those scenes were obviously so steamy is that on set they used an intimacy coordinator.
Dyvenor told Grazia magazine, "And it was so great, because it felt safe and fun: you choreographed it like a stunt or a dance." To me, it's insane that it wasn't there in the past. Before that, I did sex scenes that I can't believe I did: it was just five or six years ago, but it wouldn't be allowed now.
