Charissa Thompson's father had the best response to leaked nude photos of the Fox Sports host, which he shared with his daughter.
She's used to asking the questions, but in January 2018, Charissa Thompson found herself having to answer them as well. Photos from a long time ago had been stolen from her cloud computing account, and the former ESPN and current Fox Sports host was put in the public eye for the first time.
Thompson told Jalen Rose that she didn't let the bad thing happen to her, even though it was bad.
Her life was turned upside down when nude photos of her were leaked.
One day in January 2018, nude photos of Charissa Thompson were on the internet. She didn't know what to do. Among the stolen old photos were some that she kept from a time when she was in a long-distance relationship. People say Thompson could have been more careful, but the truth is that no one had a right to treat her like that.
On a podcast, she said: "The way I think about it is that someone came into my house. They took all of my possessions, put them out in the cul-de-sac in front of me, and I had to buy them back and put them back in my house."
The incident could have wiped out all the hard work that had gone into making a good job. Thompson had worked on the Big Ten Network and Fox Sports Net for three years. She worked her way up to be a sideline reporter on Fox's NFL games and the host of The Best Damn Sports Show Period.
Thompson worked for Yahoo! Sports for most of 2010. The next year, he joined ESPN to co-host Numbers Never Lie with Michael Smith, and he worked there for a long time. When Fox started its two sports networks, Thompson was one of the first people the company hired. She has been there ever since.
As it turned out, the photos didn't do any harm to her job because Fox executives were always on her side. Others were more critical of me.
"I think it's just frustrating that you can be a victim of something and then have to defend your point of view," she said in a recent interview with Jalen Rose.
She asked her Fox Sports coworker Erin Andrews to get in touch with her, too.
As soon as Charissa Thompson's nude photos were released, she called her Fox Sports colleague Erin Andrews. She had been photographed nude through a hotel peephole back in 2008.
"I just threw it away. Thompson said this in an interview with The Athletic in 2018. The person I called because no one else I knew had been through that. She was a huge, huge support system for me and still is with the things I'm going through now.
Next, she had a meeting with her bosses at Fox Sports, who came up with a very unusual plan. Despite the fact that she wasn't supposed to work the NFC Championship Game, they still put her on a plane to Philadelphia. There, she saw the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Minnesota Vikings to reach Super Bowl 52. They knew that even though Thompson wasn't working, being around her closest friends in the business was a good way to help her get through the hard times.
Jolen Rose: "I was just with them. They were so nice to me." Because even though most people say things like, "How did you get a job after that?"... I'll never forget that. Instead, they put their arms around me and said, "We've got you."
Charissa Thompson's father came up with the best answer.
One of Charissa Thompson's best skills for dealing with the leaked photos was her sense of humor about her own flaws. In addition, she didn't want to play the victim.
There isn't anything else. We can keep going if that's all you have. I still think it hurts or doesn't feel good to be looked at in a different way.
It wasn't over yet. She still had to talk to her parents, who also had to deal with a lot of questions. Thompson's father had some great advice for him.
She said, "You don't want your parents to know that or be a part of a Google search." Isn't your book now a little more interesting? When you read this chapter, it is part of your story.
