Mumbai: Comedian Bharti Singh's husband, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, was arrested Sunday morning on charges of marijuana possession and use. The 33-year-old screenwriter, director and TV host was arrested following 15 hours of investigation by the Drug Control Bureau (NCB). His wife, Singh, was arrested on Saturday.

Both were returned to judicial detention until December 4, the special prosecutor said.

The anti-drugs bureau raided Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa's Mumbai home on Saturday.

Officials said a "small quantity of cannabis" (86.5 grams) was found from home in Andheri's apartment complex. They were then sent to Mumbai's office for interrogation.

According to the NCB, during interrogation, Ms Bharti and Mr Limbachiyaa decided to use opioids.

"Both Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa accepted consuming ganja. Ms Singh was placed under arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1986," read the NCB statement.

The sum of drugs seized at the couple's home was not commercial, but could also invite up to 10 years in prison, authorities claim.

After actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death in June, the NCB sampled suspected opioid usage in Bollywood and the film industry based on WhatsApp drug chats.

Ms Singh's name appeared during a drug peddler questioning, according to an NCB spokesperson. The agency also raided two other places in Mumbai on Saturday, the official said.

In recent months, top Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Rakulpreet Singh and Shraddha Kapoor have all been questioned by the NCB as part of their effort to unravel the opioid supply network to celebrities.

Actor Arjun Rampal's home was raided earlier this month and he and his partner Gabriella Demetriades were summoned for questioning.

The brother of Ms Demetriades, Agisialos Demetriades, a South African national was also questioned and is reportedly in detention.

The NCB had previously summoned film maker Firoz Nadiadwala. His wife, Shabana Saeed, was arrested a day earlier after investigators discovered 10 grams of marijuana in their Juhu home during a search. Ms Saeed was released on bail.

In September, the central agency arrested Mr Rajput's girlfriend, actor Rhea Chakraborty, for allegedly procuring him drugs. Her brother Showik, some late film star workers and some others were also detained under different provisions of the NDPS Act, focused on retrieving a minor amount of marijuana.

Rhea Chakraborty and others are reportedly on parole.
