Teen couple charged with the murder of a girl's father laughed about the'murder' in a bizarre video.
In a deranged cellphone video they recorded while still on the run, a teenage girl and her boyfriend charged with murdering her father in Las Vegas laughed about "murdering somebody" and then having lots of sex.
Prosecutors are using the shocking footage obtained by KLAS to charge Aaron Guerrero, 18, and his 16-year-old girlfriend, Sierra Halseth, the daughter of a former Nevada state senator.
“WELCOME BACK TO OUR CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE... Guerrero says into the camera, "Day three after murdering someone..." with a smirk on his face.
“Wow! Halseth responds, giggling, "Do not record that."
Guerrero continues, pecking his girlfriend on the forehead, "It was worth it."
The adolescent girl then boasts about how they "had a lot of sex today," which her boyfriend mumbles was "reward for doing it."
He then lightly slapped her face and wrapped his hand around her throat, with Halseth pretending to choke before finally looking at the camera with wide eyes and casually saying, "So, yeah."
The apparent admission was filmed in April, six days after they allegedly murdered Halseth's father, Daniel Halseth, 45, by dismembering him and setting fire to his home, according to the report.
They then fled in the father's blue Nissan Altima, but were apprehended less than a week later in Salt Lake City, where they were allegedly plotting their escape to California.
According to KLAS, the father was murdered after the teens' parents informed them they could no longer be together.
They stabbed him and then attempted to set fire to and dismember his body, police told a local station. They used his bank cards to purchase items used in the heinous crime.
Prosecutors showed the grand jury photographs of the daughter purchasing bleach and her boyfriend purchasing a saw, lighter fluid, and gloves, according to the report.
Additionally, they were shown images of the blood-stained crime scene, which included knives, saws, lighter fluid, and burned material, according to the station.
A blood-stained rug was discovered in the trunk of his vehicle, which was used as a getaway vehicle, according to KLAS.
The smoke-filled crime scene was discovered after Christine Halseth, Daniel Halseth's mother, was unable to contact him — and grew increasingly suspicious of her granddaughter's explanations, according to text messages obtained by KLAS.
According to the texts, the teen texted her concerned grandmother at one point, "His phone has been acting up, but he is fine." “It should all be resolved by tomorrow evening, no worries :),” she reportedly wrote.
The following day, Christine Halseth inquired of her granddaughter, "What are you doing?" According to KLAS, the police are now involved.
Despite her age of 16, the daughter was charged as an adult but is not subject to the death penalty under Nevada state law, KLAS reported.
Along with the murder charge, the two have been charged with conspiracy, arson, robbery, and fraudulent credit card use.
Guerrero, who is 18 years old, could face the death penalty. His attorney, Gabriel Grasso, told the station that the district attorney's office will review the case next week.
Sierra's mother, Elizabeth Halseth, was a Republican state senator who was elected to the Nevada Senate at the age of 27 in 2010, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. She has since remarried and has not spoken publicly about her daughter's allegations.
According to the deceased man's family, he was "first and foremost a devoted father, brother, and son who was the heart of the Halseth family."
“To have him taken from us in such a heinous, savage, senseless, and violent act of murder breaks our hearts, and our grief is unyielding,” the family stated.
“The video's complete lack of remorse is both repulsive and unforgivable.”
The family stated that they are "waiting for justice to be served with the utmost accountability permissible."
“We adored Dan and miss him at all hours of the day,” the statement read.
